#Cricket_Fever_2020

Hello Dear Readers! Welcome Back! As promised, we are back onto the “New World Order” to share with you some more interesting write-ups especially written for you!

Firstly, I would like to sincerely congratulate all recovered COVID-19 patients who have given a befitting reply to this obnoxious disease! I would also want to wish all the current COVID-19 patients who are suffering from the dreaded virus a speedy recovery. All of you needn’t worry, sit-back, and relax, this is a hard time, and hard times don’t last long! With the number of vaccine trials and other immunity boosters being released weekly, am sure this lethal virus’ end is far too near! So, now, moving on… Today’s blog is a little different from all the others I’ve written so far. Today’s blog is about… yeah, well when I wrote the title it wasn’t click-bait, so, yup, you guessed it! It’s about CRICKET! 😊 Now, if u think of #CricketFever, these days, what is the first thing that comes to your mind ?πŸ€” I can bet you were thinking the Indian Premier League, IPL!πŸŽ‰πŸ₯³

So, like everyone might know, one of the most viewed and followed cricketing tournament that takes place annually, the IPL, is back into action, although, the action has been delayed quite a lot, I must say! πŸ˜‰ Usually, the IPL is played in India around the month of April. However, seeing that 2020 is a rather unusual year, the IPL too has followed an unusual format and started on the 19th September and is being played in UAE. All my fellow cricket viewers might be thinking why I am telling all this.🀨 So, dear readers, this information was just a slight background for all non-cricket viewers, or people who due to, well, the COVID era, haven’t been able to follow the current season of one of the world’s most loved cricketing tournaments. πŸ™‚

For most of us, this year has meant ducking down to keep ourselves from the bouncers that COVID has been throwing at us. I don’t know if you all will agree with me or not, however, I feel that the IPL is a testimony to the fact that the world is coming back to normalcy after a spin-full year. To put it in terms of cricket, after a rough previous few matches, we are now giving a fitting reply to our opponent-COVID, and tossing it’s yorkers over the boundaries! πŸ˜…

A smiling Virat Kohi realizing what he was about to do!

Although, I must say, there have been a lot of changes there too! For example the fact that the players can’t apply saliva to the ball! “Old habits die hard!”πŸ˜„ This saying seems to suit a little too well for many cricketers these days. The sudden yet foreseen ban on applying saliva on the ball is a rule that most haven’t yet adjusted with. Lately, a video of the Indian skipper just about to apply saliva on the ball has been doing the rounds a lot. Virat’s expression in this particular clip are remarkable, 🀣 catch him here, if you had missed him when his video was spinning on the social media.

Another visible and a personally saddening change for me was the obvious loss of an audience. The need to create a bio-secure bubble for the cricketers and to avoid risking the safety of the audience led to the decision of matches being played in empty stadiums. But, I would like to take this occasion as an opportunity to appreciate the hard-work put in technologically in creating effects in stadiums. The loud noise of the crowd that one usually hears when a ball nears the boundary, or if a bowler’s delivery barely misses the stumps too was at it’s best recreated. You can hear people screaming player’s names when they do well among other effects that almost make one feel like there is an audience watching the match out there! I must say, although we can’t see the match in person, watching it virtually still gives me great pleasure, does it feel similar to you? Do tell me in the comments! 😊

With the IPL coming back, a much anticipated meme-feast also broke-out online, whether to roast certain players or appreciate them. Am sure you must have come across some-or-the other similar type of meme/video, haven’t you?! Another old habit that I noticed coming back was the frequent urge of picking-up the phone between study breaks to check the score and give a shrill cry, either because of happiness that your favorite team is doing well or to show your disappointment if the same team does bad! I, for one, have been picking up the phone a lot for the same, and have also gotten scolded for it, am sure all children with similar interests would sympathize with my situation!πŸ˜ŠπŸ˜‰

Now, just to let you all know about how this season’s IPL has been progressing until now, a look into the points table as it is when am writing this blog… DC at the top of the table with 5 out of 6 matches played resulting in wins, KXIP at the bottom of the table currently, with only 2 points. Last year’s finalists, MI and CSK on the 2nd and 6th spot, respectively. KKR, SRH, RCB and RR all look promising this time, and are nearly head-to head on the points table as of now.

Before I end, I want to let you all know… I wanted to write this blog to remind you all that there is hope, and it shall never die. The IPL is like I said, a reminder to how our lives used to be, and how, they shall again be, very soon! I do know how lethal this virus is, and how depressing it makes our lives seem, however, what we must remember is that there is a reason to keep ourselves positive and think good, too. As it was once famously said By J.K. Rowling- “Happiness can be found, even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.” Etching this quote in your hearts, remember to turn the light on, stay positive, and keep all sad thoughts at bay! 😊
